A B2B industrial supplier with a technically weak site and almost no organic footprint: 50 organic visitors and 87 sessions in the first month of measurement. The category had demand; the site simply could not be found in it.
What we did
The engagement began with full technical remediation and a rebuild of the site structure, with keyword research run against category and specification-led intent. On-page work followed across heading hierarchy, meta information and keyword density, backed by sustained authority building tracked monthly against a fixed metric set.
Reporting covered eight metrics every month, with Google algorithm changes annotated directly against them so movement could be attributed honestly.
What happened
Month two produced the sharpest movement: organic traffic rose 198% (50 to 149), sessions rose 355% (87 to 396), and referring backlinks grew from 112 to 209. Backlinks reached 10,068 by month eight. Indexed keywords went from zero to ranking, with the first target keyword landing in month four.
| Metric | Recorded |
|---|---|
| Organic traffic, month two | +198% (50 to 149) |
| Sessions, month two | +355% (87 to 396) |
| Backlinks, month two | 112 to 209 |
| Backlinks, month eight | 10,068 |
| First target keyword ranking | Month four |
The more useful result is what happened next. Four consecutive Google core updates landed during the engagement, August, September, October and November 2023, and the site held. During the August core update it improved in four of six tracked areas; through the September Helpful Content update, which cut visibility across the category, sessions and backlinks continued to climb even as traffic dipped.
The honest read
Traffic peaked in month five and settled lower through the algorithm turbulence that followed; we reported that decline in the same chart as the growth. Gains this steep also reflect a low base and a site whose underlying content deserved to rank once the structure stopped hiding it, the same work on a thin site would have moved very little. What the engagement demonstrates is durability through algorithm change, which is harder to achieve than a single good quarter.
